Surface Guided Radiotherapy systems
Published: 23rd September 2024
The Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG), a volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting cancer patients and enhancing cancer treatment in Bath and the surrounding region, is proud to announce we have funded Surface Guided Radiotherapy system for the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
Surface Guided Radiotherapy systems reduce the risk to adjoining tissue such as the heart, lungs or brain if the patient moves during radiotherapy. The equipment switches off automatically if the patient moves at all.
Surface Guided Radiotherapy systems also avoids the need for positioning tattoos and there is much less manual handling of the patient when getting them into the correct position for treatment and in the case of head & neck patients an open face mask can be used rather than a closed one therefore providing a much less claustrophobic experience.

Thank you for visiting The Bath Cancer Unit Support Group website. The Charity is run entirely by volunteers, meaning there are no paid staff.
Approximately 95% of all monies raised goes straight into equipment and resources of the Cancer Departments at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
The other 5% is spent on vital administration costs. During the past 33 years, our enthusiastic volunteers have raised over £6 million.
