The donors’ evening was held on May 21st, 2025, in the outpatients’ waiting area of the new Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital.
This year, the Chairman of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, Mike Taylor, was joined by Dr. Polly Bates from Paediatric Oncology, Catherine Gilleece, Matron of the Cancer Centre, Alison Ryan, Chair of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, and Dr. Emma de Winton, Consultant Clinical Oncologist. Each gave a brief overview of how the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group continues to support patient care and improve outcomes at the Royal United Hospital.
Our grateful thanks to the Deputy Mayor, Ruth Malloy, who presented certificates to our selected donors this year.
Olivia’s fundraising challenge this year is to cycle the distance that Esme has to do regularly from Frome to the RUH, approximately 16miles.
She will be doing this in June with four of her wonderful friends; Tabby, Eva and Leah and their parents. Esme will be doing a sponsored scoot around her local park with her friends to the equivalent distance that Olivia is doing.
Esme and her friends will be adding up the distance that they all do to get to 16miles.

Good luck and farewell.
After an incredible 30 years of dedicated service as a trustee of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Caroline Gilleece and express our deepest gratitude. Caroline, who also serves as Matron of the Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, is retiring from her role as a trustee of the Support Group.
Michel Taylor, Chairman of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, shared: “Caroline’s dual role as both Trustee and Matron was invaluable to us. She kept us well-informed on developments within the Cancer Unit and played a key role in directing funding requests from her colleagues to us. I will truly miss her positivity, expertise, and kind presence. We wish you all the very best in whatever comes next, Caroline!”
